Project 1
introduced and explored the formal and poetic articulation of architecture in a
site-less condition. Project 2 established a Design Concept as a driver for
architectural development. In Project 3, the design brief calls for an architectural
response to design AN INTERPRETIVE CENTER emphasizing a strong engagement and relationship to the site, spatial
experiences and programmatic requirements.
in this project, i had designed a visitor interpretive center of Pulau Besar by
- Generate design based on the unique character and
conditions of the site context
- Generate design through conscious consideration of
section-plan relationship with considerations of human scale, natural light,
materials/texture
- Design a small scale community
building which response to the site (site topography,
history and socio-cultural events), functional program and users’ experiences
- Produce drawings (both 2D and 3D), modelling and
verbal presentation to communicate and visualize architectural design and
ideas.
DESIGN CONCEPT:
THE MAIN DESIGN CONCEPT OF THE VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTER IS BRIGHT FORCES AND DARK FORCES. THE IDEA IS DERIVED FROM THE ATMOSPHERE THAT CREATED BY THE LEGENDS AND THE FACTS OF PULAU BESAR. THE GROUND FLOOR IS COVERED WITH WOODEN STRIPS WHICH PLACED RANDOMLY TO ENHANCE THE FEELING OF FOREST. THE GAPS BETWEEN THE STRIPS CREATED DIFFERENT SHAPE OF FRAME WHICH ALLOWED VISITOR TO FRAME THE GOOD VIEW IN INTERESTING WAY ESPECIALLY THE UNIQUE TREE AT THE LEFT HANDSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THE GROUND FLOOR IS REPRESENT THE LIGHT FORCES THAT INSPIRED BY THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF PULAU BESAR.HOWEVER, THE LOWER GROUND THAT SUNKEN INTO GROUND IS REPRESENT THE DARK FORCES. WITH THE LIMITED NATURAL LIGHT AND THE MASSIVE CONCRETE WALLS, THE LOWER GROUND FLOOR IS MUCH DARKER AND COOLER THAN THE GROUND FLOOR. BATU BELAH, A BIG ROCK SEPARATED INTO TWO IS PLACED AT THE ROCK GARDEN. IT IS INSPIRED BY ONE OF THE LEGENDS AND THE ROCKY SITE IS ALSO THE INSPIRATION. TREE PLANTED BESIDE THE ROCK ENHANCED THE POETRY OF THE SPACE AND THE PEACEFULNESS. THIS OFFERED VISITOR A COMFORTABLE AND POETRY SPACE TO DO THE LEISURE ACTIVE AFTER VISITED EXHIBIT
